In my personal experience negative karma comes from someone not liking to here the truth, for others this might not be true. IDK butthurt gets thrown around and so forth.

Also I noticed my Karma seems to go up really oddly. For example I just got +1 on my Good/Bad at the same time. Also sometimes my + number goes up and then goes down again but I just assume this is some sort of coding glitch?

This whole Negative and Positive Karma thing makes me feel like I'm playing a game of Fable. ::)
As long as you give respect where it is due and show a mutual respect that every human has a right to, then I'm sure people will get to know you and Karma wont matter.

Personally I think the people that get the most Karma here are the ones that cut through the bullshit to give the clear picture. I know the times when I get given + Karma by people it's because of the times when I post giving a realistic view/knowledge on things. If you check out my post on the thread where the guy is talking about going to Colombia and bringing back Bing from there, I got about +7 for that.

Yeah to be fair though I think the kind of people that the forum needs are people that aren't here for a popularity contest and are willing to say "Errrr no mate" when it's needed (I think that's why I was considered and given the blue stripe). At the same time, if you are going to be that way you can't be afraid to say "actually, you are right about that". Otherwise speaking your mind just turns into arrogance and that's never good. I think sometimes on forums though people don't recognize that there is no shame in admitting you are mistaken or see that your POV isn't the best foot forward. Probably because this place and others are based on 100% rep and you can only get that from what you type.

Not sure about the functionality of this board, but another forum i'm part of, the admins can give you access to a panel allowing you to view who's sending you karma.
